Abstract

This chapter is organized as follows. First, in Section 14.1, we outline the process of listing, understanding, and communicating with your stakeholders: this step is essential to build a detailed and accurate understanding of the problem requirements. Second, in Section 14.2, we explain how you can gain an in-depth understanding your data, and underscore the need for development data. Third, in Section 14.3, we discuss success criteria: how to define your evaluation metrics, compute them, and communicate about them. Fourth, in Section 14.4, we focus on the engineering process, and provide a few pointers on how to build and maintain reliable, trustworthy software for privacy-critical applications. Finally, in Section 14.5, we address algorithmic tuning, and suggest a number of ways to improve the trade-off between privacy and utility for your differentially private mechanism.
