Abstract

Thomas Tietenberg has taught and mentored innumerable people in many ways. We use interviews with seven scholars who have been taught by, or have taught or collaborated with, Tietenberg to study the career of this admirable scholar-teacher. We find that, through the textbooks he authored and co-authored, in his own classroom, in his impact on curricula, and through his mentoring and leadership, Tietenberg exemplifies qualities we can all aspire to, including an eagerness to share with any audience, clarity in communication, passion for the subject matter, integration of teaching with scholarship and policy work, generosity, and integrity.
