Abstract

We provide an overview of the challenges and recent developments in international corporate finance, broadly defined as corporate finance research with an international perspective. Our survey highlights recent studies that make use of international data, cross-country analyses, and unique country-specific settings to address unexplored research questions in corporate finance and governance. We specifically focus on the roles of formal and informal country-level institutions in shaping corporate structure, financing, and investment decisions. We also discuss the key results and implications of the papers featured in this Special Issue and potential avenues for future research.
